CHPS vs LEED comparison

Recently, I reviewed the CO CHPS (Colorado Collaborative for High Performance Schools) Rating System compared to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) 2009 for Schools Rating system to determine which was the best fit for a renovation and expansion of a historic school.

I conclusively found that the biggest distinction is the energy optimization goals: 5% Below ASHRAE 90.1-2007 for LEED (with up to 19 additional points if designed to 44% Below 90.1-2007 Energy Standard ) vs. 25% Below ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Energy Standard (with up to 20 additional points if designed to 60% Below 90.1-2007 Energy Standard).  How aggressively a project wants to target energy optimization may be the driving factor in the rating systems selection for an existing school.
