The College Center was envisioned, designed and built to be the heart and soul of student life at Western State College (WSC).Just minutes from the town of Crested Butte, Black Canyon, Gunnison National Park and Taylor Reservoir, Western State College is a natural playground for outdoor enthusiasts. By understanding the unique interests of the WSC student body, SLATERPAULL with WTW Architects, created a design that embodied this “love of the outdoors." With an average winter low of -8 degrees, the College Center was designed as a refuge from the harsh outdoor temperatures while paying homage to the views and daylight for which Colorado is so famous. The highly insulated building

envelope and energy efficient design has helped in achieving a LEED Gold certification.
