The Molkery at Montclair Park
Originally constructed in 1888 as a hotel and dairy restaurant by the real estate developer Baron Von Richtofen, the building was the first commercial structure built in the town of Montclair. Prior to its purchase in 1908 by the City of Denver, the three-story building served many purposes including a sanitarium and insane asylum. The preservation provides a thoughtful adaptive re-use of the building for community use and features reconstruction of the cupola and three chimneys to replicate original construction. The Molkery project has received two recent prestigious awards including the “Stephen H. Hart Award,” from the Colorado Historical Society, and the “Community Preservation Award,” from Historic Denver, Inc. |

Tivoli Student Union Rehabilitation
Used as the campus student union, the Tivoli complex consists of 14 buildings, some of which were originally designed as brewery buildings in 1870 and are still used today for the same purpose. This $20 million project was initiated by the students of the Auraria Higher Education Campus who voted to fund the renovation of the 350,000 square foot complex. Rehabilitation includes repair of the building systems, remediation of code violations, retrofit mechanical and electrical systems, exterior brick repair, removal and replacement of exterior paint coatings, fire and life safety upgrades, and ADA upgrades among others. The Tivoli has received several recent accolades including a “Community Preservation Award,” from Historic Denver, Inc. |

Kit Carson County Carousel Building
Built in 1905, this is the oldest surviving carousel made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and is in virtually unaltered condition. It is the only surviving carousel in America with the original paint on both the figures and scenery panels. It was originally built for Elitch’s Gardens and was sold to Kit Carson in 1927 along with the Rudolph Wurlitzer Monster Military Band Organ which is the only complete one of its kind. In 1928, a dodecagonal structure was completed on the county fairgrounds to house the carousel. Restoration of this structure replicates the historical appearance in addition to correcting deferred maintenance concerns. The primary purpose of the building is to protect the carousel, and the building is considered critical for the preservation of the carousel.
