SLATERPAULL ARCHITECTS RECEIVES AIA AWARD

Honored for Renovation of Engine House No. 5, Former Denver Fire Station, into Green Office for 40-Year Old Firm

Denver, CO (November 5, 2012) – SLATERPAULL Architects announces that it has received a Citation Award for Interior Architecture from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado for Engine House No. 5, the former LoDo fire station at 19th and Market, now home to the 40-year Denver architecture firm.

SLATERPAULL Architects purchased Engine House No.5, originally built in 1922, from the City and County of Denver in 2010 and renovated the 13,000-square-foot former fire station into an ultra-green office space for the firm’s headquarters.  SLATERPAULL’s interior design solution for the office combined the historic character of Engine House No. 5 with a flexible, collaborative environment and an overall building approach using a variety of sustainable materials. In 2011, Engine House No.5 was named the first LEED Platinum historic building in Colorado by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

“We thank AIA Colorado for recognizing our work on Engine House No. 5,” says Jamie Pedler, president and CFO of SLATERPAULL Architects.  “The Engine House gave us a wonderful opportunity to combine two of our passions – sustainable design and historic preservation – and to further our mission of ‘Design for a Sustainable Future, while giving back to the community.”

SLATERPAULL Architects / Engine House No. 5 was also a recipient of the 2011 Governor's Awards for Downtown Excellence from Downtown Colorado, Inc. in the category of Best Adaptive Reuse and received an award this year from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) for Best Commercial Interior Design.

A leader in the design of educational spaces, historic preservation and building renovation, SLATERPAULL Architects is dedicated to creating community-enhancing environments that reflect the firm’s commitment to ‘Design for a Sustainable Future.’ For more information, visit www.SLATERPAULL.com.
