ENGLEWOOD, CO  - April 9, 2015 -- Englewood Schools announces the official grand opening for  Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice -- an alternative high school program that offers a flexible environment and individualized attention to make sure students successfully complete high school and go on to pursue secondary education or a career.  The new space, which is three times larger than the site of the former school, provides a highly integrated learning environment with hybrid technology and alternative programming.

Students have been utilizing the new space since January, with the building officially open to the public this week. The new building had been the site of Englewood Middle School previously and was designed by SLATERPAULL | Hord Coplan Macht and built by Haselden Construction to promote student-centered learning environments while keeping an open feel to the building that the school had embraced at its former facility.

“We are very excited to give the students and staff at Colorado’s Finest High School of Choice the state-of-the-art facility that they deserve,” says superintendent, Brian Ewert. “We are thrilled to see all the learning that takes place with the new opportunities this 21st century space offers students.”

The new, 98,000-square-foot space includes amenities and opportunities for students such as a multi-media classroom space, a new fitness/weight room with adjoining locker rooms, two newly renovated gyms, a cosmetology salon and classroom, and a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lab.

“It was a pleasure to be involved in the design of Colorado’s Finest and to deliver a truly collaborative, open and flexible learning environment to these exceptional students,” says Matt Porta, principal, SLATERPAULL | Hord Coplan Macht.

Renovations to the building were made possible by both a 2011 Bond and a BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today) grant that the district received. The total cost of the project was approximately $17 million, with the BEST grant covering nearly $8.5 million. The new school is on track for LEED Gold certification.
